Workshop: How to Make a Deputation (speak) at City Hall

Training will be held at our office at 1179 King Street West, Suite 202.

At City Hall, anyone who wants to is allowed to sign up to go to a Committee meeting and make a 5 minute statement to the Councillors at the meeting (sometimes shortened to 3 minutes by the Committee). These “deputations” are an important part of the decision-making process, and are an opportunity to speak directly to the Mayor and Councillors about the issues that matter to you.

On Thursday, March 21 Mayor Tory and his closest allies on City Council (the Executive Committee) are going to be voting on two items about the future of our subway. Progress Toronto has launched a campaign to push City Hall to stand strong against Ford’s subway takeover.

Your experience with the TTC makes you an expert on transit. If your voice is united alongside the many other transit riders, workers and activists deputing, we'll have a greater chance of keeping transit in municipal hands.

A well-delivered deputation can have a big impact on how councillors vote. But it can feel intimidating to sign up. To make it easier, Progress Toronto is hosting a deputation training workshop for anyone interested in learning more about speaking at City Hall. You will be able to format and practice your comments before the Executive Committee meeting on March 21.
