Electing Progressive Champions and stopping villains
The new Premier, Doug Ford, has done his best to throw our local elections into chaos, distracting us from the work that matters: electing Progressive Champions to city hall and the school board. We’ve been fighting back and mobilizing tens of thousands of people to take action over the last few weeks. No matter what Ford does, we need to make sure we win at the ballot box and elect Progressive Champions on October 22.
With just over 30 days left in this election, Progress Toronto has officially registered as a third party with the City of Toronto. Whether we are facing 25 wards or 47, we will be working to elect Progressive Champions and unseat villains in key battleground wards across Toronto where we know we will have an impact.
Villains are incumbents (current politicians) who have a record of working with Premier Doug Ford and of voting against a more progressive, inclusive, and affordable city. We are accepting nominations for villains (from you!) until 5pm Saturday September 22, 2018. Scroll down or click here to find out more.
Progressive Champions are candidates for Toronto City Council or the Toronto District School Board who are committed to building a more democratic, socially just, and progressive city. We are asking candidates to answer a questionnaire by 5pm on Saturday September 22, 2018. Responses to these questions will be a major factor in determining which candidates Progress Toronto will support as Progressive Champions.. For current Councillors (incumbents), past voting records will also be considered. Scroll down or click here to find out more.
Supporting Progressive Champions and working to unseat villains in key races will happen in different ways and the tools we deploy will depend on the race.
Some of the things we will do:
encourage people to donate to Progressive Champions
encourage people to volunteer directly with Progressive Champions
promote and share content online about our Progressive Champions and villains
mobilize volunteers to drop flyers, knock on doors, talk to voters in real life, share content online, and call and text voters about our Progressive Champions and villains
turn out progressive voters across the city on election day
Would you like to help us? Sign up to volunteer at progresstoronto.ca/volunteer
Confused? We can help.
Ford has created some serious confusion for voters. What ward do you live in? Where will you be voting? When are voting days? Are you on the voters list?
Don’t worry. We’ve got you. Commit to voting for progress and we will make sure you know when, where, and what you need to vote. Commit to vote for progress here: progresstoronto.ca/yes
Help us determine which of city council’s worst villains we will work to unseat on October 22. We have a villain nomination form for you — and your friends if you’d like — to fill out and submit to firstname.lastname@example.org by 5pm, Saturday September 22, 2018.
We will use your responses to this call for nominations to help develop our flyers, online content, and scripts.
How do you spot a villain? Villains are incumbents (current politicians) who have a record of working with Premier Doug Ford and of voting against a more progressive, inclusive, and affordable city.
Becoming a Progressive Champion
Progress Toronto is asking those candidates for city council and the TDSB school board who are interested in becoming one of our Progressive Champions to complete a questionnaire by 5pm Saturday September 22, 2018.
We want to know that you’re committed to building a more democratic, socially just, and progressive Toronto. While we cover many topics, we don’t touch on everything and we have tried to keep this as short as possible. The questionnaires ask you about some of the pressing problems facing our city and some of the issues where we have seen the most division at Toronto city council and the school board. The issue-based questions are meant to be quick yes or no answers to help you complete the questionnaire faster.
Complete the questionnaire for city council candidates here: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/councillorquestions2018
Complete the questionnaire for TDSB trustee candidates here: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/trusteequestions2018
We ask that you complete the questionnaires using our online survey, but you can also preview all the questions at the links below:
