Alexis is an anti-racism trainer, community co-chair of the TDSB’s Black Student Achievement Community Advisory Committee (BSACAC), chair of governance on the Ontario Alliance of Black School Educators (ONABSE), and a TDSB trustee.
Alexis is committed to closing the well-being and learning gaps worsened by the pandemic, ensuring equity, anti-racism, and anti-oppression are deeply embedded in all schools to help improve outcomes for Black and Indigenous students, and to ensuring underserved communities are represented in decision-making by implementing effective community engagement. About Alexis from her website: Alexis Dawson is an equity, diversity and inclusion leader in the child care sector, anti-racism trainer, public education advocate and elected Toronto District School Board Trustee.
Alexis is a proud mom of two, wife and gardener. On weekends, you can find her racing between her daughter’s gymnastics and son’s football, spending time with extended family, or organizing and showing up for the issues and causes she cares about.
Alexis is seeking re-election in the newly formed TDSB Trustee Ward 3: Parkdale–High Park and Davenport because she believes every child deserves an excellent public education. She is committed to a fair and just school system where every student has the opportunities, resources and support they need to thrive.
Alexis brings the voices and experiences of students, families and communities to the board table. She works to turn what she hears from families into policies and decisions that better support students, their well-being and their success at school.
Her commitment to public education began long before she was elected. Alexis was a long-time volunteer and school council co-chair at her children’s TDSB school, community co-chair of the TDSB’s Black Student Achievement Community Advisory Committee (BSACAC), and Governance Chair with the Ontario Alliance of Black School Educators (ONABSE).
In 2019, Alexis received the City of Toronto’s Access, Equity and Human Rights Award in recognition of her work advancing equity in education and her leadership as a community organizer.
