Chiara Padovani
Your Progressive Champion for City Councillor in York South—Weston (Ward 5) is Chiara Padovani. Chiara grew up in York South—Weston, works as a social worker at a local food bank, and lives in the ward with her family. She’s spent years fighting for action on flooding, stopping evictions, and supporting tenants and seniors locally. Chiara is committed to making housing more affordable, creating good local jobs, making roads safer, advocating for better transit and much more.
In 2022, Chiara ran against long-time conservative City Councillor Frances Nunziata who was first elected in 1988! Chiara gained a tonne of support and only lost by 94 votes. Since then Chiara has continued working hard locally and has built an even stronger community of support through her creation of the York South—Weston Community Hub. Progress Toronto is working hard to get out the vote for Chiara.

In the 2022 municipal election, she came within 94 votes of defeating the long-time incumbent -- and since then, has continued serving the residents of York South-Weston through the community hub she opened in her former campaign office.
A human rights activist and social worker who works with the North York Harvest Food Bank, Chiara has spent many years fighting for residents in communities like Weston and Mount Dennis, where she was born and raised.
From helping found the York South-Weston Tenant Union and advocating for improved public transit to fighting for a living wage and better environmental protections, Chiara has a proven record of getting results for her community.
Chiara’s international experience has taken her to Argentina and Ecuador, where she spent six years fighting for human rights, specifically in the area of housing and women’s rights at the global level.
As city councillor, Chiara will bring this same level of energy and commitment to addressing the challenges facing York South-Weston, including housing and the climate crisis.
Chiara lives with her husband, Bruno, in Weston. In her spare time, she coaches soccer with the York Jets, cycles along the Humber River trail and enjoys participating in her local book club.
