Karen Emerson
Your Progressive Champion for TDSB Trustee in Beaches—East York and Scarborough Southwest (TDSB Ward 10) is Karen Emerson. Karen has spent decades working with families and students to better public education locally and across the city.
Karen worked with longtime TDSB Trustee Sheila Cary-Meagher and assisted families in navigating the school system, helped reduce barriers for parent involvement, and supported equity and environmental initiatives like Model Schools for Inner Cities and Eco-Schools. These programs have had positive impacts on students, and now are being threatened by Doug Ford.
For the past 20 years, Karen has helped build an arts hub in Beaches—East York and advocated for arts and music education. As a parent of two, she knows how important good public education is to student health. Karen will fight back against Ford’s attacks on public education, work to restore democratic governance in the TDSB so families can have their voices heard, and work alongside trustees for proper education funding. Progress Toronto will be getting the word out about Karen and encouraging people to elect her as the next TDSB Trustee.

About Karen from her website: Hi my name is Karen, I am running for TDSB School Trustee in the new Ward 10, representing Beaches–East York and Scarborough Southwest.
I am a life-long advocate for public education.
In 1995, shortly after the birth of my first child, I put my baby in a Snuggly, picked up a protest sign and headed to Queen’s Park to fight cuts to public education.
More than thirty years later, I am still fighting.
This time, I’m asking you to fight alongside me. I’m running because I believe public education is one of the most important things we can build together — and because I am deeply concerned about what is happening to it.
For three decades, I have worked with children, youth, parents, and communities. I have seen extraordinary teachers and education workers change young people's lives. I have seen schools become places of belonging, creativity, and possibility.
But I have also watched decades of budget cuts take their toll on our children. Behind every budget cut is a child.
