5 of Toronto’s former mayors have come together to send a letter to Toronto’s current Mayor John Tory, urging him to reject the undemocratic powers he requested of Doug Ford that would allow him to win votes with the support of only a third of city councillors. Read their full letter here.

On the heels of the historic election of new and diverse progressive voices to city hall, Mayor John Tory is working closely with Doug Ford to pass a disturbingly undemocratic power grab that allows the Mayor to win votes with the support of only a third of city councillors. Use our tool to send a message to your local politicians and the mayor, to stop Doug Ford and Mayor Tory from taking away your democratic power. Sign the petition here.

Doug Ford is meddling with Toronto City Hall again. Ford wants to expand the mayor’s powers in Toronto and Ottawa to create a “strong mayor” system where, as Ford said, “one person [is] in charge, with veto power.”

Handing local city councillors’ powers over to the mayor makes it even harder for people to have their say at City Hall. We need better representation, not less. Use our petition to send a message directly to your local representatives and tell them to stand up for our local democracy.
