Spring Training Series:

Making Calls for a Candidate

See other Spring training sessions offered by Progress Toronto here

The municipal election is officially underway and this is our opportunity to support progressive candidates and change who holds power who holds power at city hall and the school board. Making calls (also known as phone banking) is a key tactic we can use to introduce candidates to voters and to help people understand why they should support progressive candidates on election day.

On Wednesday, May 11 at 12PM expert campaigner Clive Scott, alongside Progress Toronto Organizer Richmond Uy, will be leading our Making Calls for a Candidate workshop. Join to learn how to best engage and persuade people over the phone to support a candidate, how to use calling tools, and how to identify supporters.

This training has three parts to it. You’re welcome to only attend Part 1 if you’d like but we encourage you to participate in all three.

Part 1: Wednesday, May 11 at 12PM - Online Making Calls for a Candidate training

Part 2: Apply your skills in a volunteer shift - Between May 12 and May 17 we encourage you to practice what you just learned at the workshop by signing up to volunteer and make calls for a candidate of your choosing. With the provincial election also underway you can choose either a provincial campaign or a local municipal campaign.

Part 3: Wednesday, May 18 at 12PM - Online, 45-minute debrief to share how your calling went and talk about lessons learned.

Join to learn:

  • the basics of making calls in support of a candidate

  • how to engage people on the phone and identify support

  • how to persuade people to support your candidate
